Poetry to Expand The Family: A Literacy Event to Engage Parents and Increase Parent Student Relationships
PAC (Parent Advisory Council) Title 1 program provides federal funding to support schools with high numbers of low-income families. One reason for having a poetry slam for parents and students is to promote family engagement and involve parents in their child's education, which is a requirement of the Title 1 program.
A poetry slam/open mic can provide an opportunity for parents and students to come together and share their thoughts and feelings through poetry. This type of event can create a safe and supportive environment for students and parents to express themselves and build relationships with each other and with school staff.
Additionally, a poetry slam/open mic can promote literacy and language skills, which are key components of the Title 1 program. It can help students develop their communication skills, creativity, and critical thinking skills. It can also encourage parents to read and write with their children at home, which can improve academic achievement.
Overall, a poetry slam for parents and students can support the goals of the Title 1 program by promoting family engagement, improving literacy skills, and building relationships between parents, students, and school staff.

Our vision is to build The Miss Abbie’s Kids Community Center within the Fordham Road section of The Bronx and other areas to provide families with access to services and facilities that contribute to their community’s long-term growth and sustainability.
We also seek to enlist the help of local officials who have seen the impact of our work.
It will be a safe and accessible environment for children and adult education, mental health/substance use referrals, mentoring, food security, ending mass incarceration, increasing civic participation.
Vocational classes include engineering, barbering, CDL training, carpentry, beautician training and entrepreneurial development.
In addition to these essential services, Miss Abbie’s Kids Community Center will also offer crisis intervention. A community garden will be used to teach about growing and eating nutritious foods.
There will also be a marketplace and juice bar space for meetings for local members to discuss social and community topics, in addition to building a recording studio for our youth to record their music, while learning the engineering that produces the sound.
FOR 8 MONTHS WE MADE HISTORY AS THE ONLY LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTER OPEN AND SERVICING COMMUNITY DURING THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC-here are some memories.
